The Pencil Story

The Pencilmaker told the pencils 5 important lessons:
  1. Everything you do will always leave a mark.
  2. You can always correct the mistakes you make.
  3. What is important is what is inside you.
  4. In life you will undergo painful sharpenings which will make you a better pencil.
  5. To be the best pencil you can be, you must allow yourself to be held and guided by the Hand that holds you.
Let's be the best pencil we can be.

The Power of Visualization

You can use this video to visualize your success as you apply the Law of Attraction.

The Power of Giving

My good friend Mr. Danny Guitierrez just informed me yesterday about his new blogsite. I learned more on the power of giving in one of his posts entitled "THE TEN SECRETS". As written in his blog...

The Third Secret — The Power Of Giving

If you want to receive love, all you have to do is give it! The more love you give, the more you will receive. To love is to give of yourself freely and unconditionally. Practice random acts of kindness. Before committing to a relationship ask not what the other person will be able to give to you, but rather what will you be able to give them. The secret formula of a happy, lifelong, loving relationship is to always focus on what you can give instead of what you can take.

Do you want to learn the other 9 secrets? Here's the link to Mr. Danny's blog:

Thank you and have a great day!

My last game during the 2008 AFP-PNP Olympics

Today was my last Chess game during the 2008 AFP-PNP Olympics . Since it has been more than a decade of not playing a chess tournament, this day was my last chance to win at least a single point during the whole tournament. I was playing Board 3 for Team Army with the black pieces against my upperclassman Cpt Luisito Calsado Jr (PMA Class '97) Philippine Airforce. I share this game to all of you chess enthusiasts and fellow business partners, because this story became one of my profound testimonials... I played the game which lasted for about three hours, with only just two hours of sleep the night before. Despite the lack of sleep, I was still alert and energetic to be able to calculate my final winning moves with lightning speed, and I eventually won the game with a sneaky move on the 27th. By the way, I drank 30ml of Kamangi an hour before the game. Thanks to the power of our product and to the support of my team mates! It was an enjoyable and fruitful night afterwards at Nipa Hut! Congratulations to the Army Chess Team for a splendid performance!

A Blind Boy

Thanks to Aladdin A. Jove for this very inspiring post (and of course to the very source of this story)!

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: 'I am blind, please help.' There were only a few coins in the hat.

A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.

Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'

The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.' What he had written was: 'Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it.'

Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?

Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?

Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.

Invite others towards good with wisdom. Live life with no excuse and love with no regrets. When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile. Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear. Keep the faith and drop the fear.

Great men say, 'Life has to be an incessant process of repair and reconstruction, of discarding evil and developing goodness…. In the journey of life, if you want to travel without fear, you must have the ticket of a good conscience.'

The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling…
And even more beautiful is, knowing that YOU are the reason behind it!!!

The Power of Gratitude

Thank you Tony K. Abellera for sending me that wonderful and powerful PowerPoint presentation regarding Life's Essentials.

Here's a snippet from the last portion of the Presentation:

Gratitude
unfolds the goodness of life.
It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.
It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home.
Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

To Tony and his family, THANK YOU very much for everything! May God shower you with more blessings in life.

What is Valuable?

In doing this business, we should ask what's valuable? Would it be the money we earn or the lessons of life that we learn? Would it be what we got or the person that we became? Yes, it's Personality Development that is more valuable. What counts is the opportunity to grow more, to be the best of what you can ever be (spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, financially, etc.), and live and enjoy your life to the fullest. As Jim Rohn said:

"Success is not to be pursued, it should be attracted by the person that we become."

Five Fingers; Don't Quit

It was another productive moment. We joined Ipe and Jhon De Villier's group at Nipa Hut to attend an NRich Business Opportunity Meeting. Jhon's smooth delivery of the presentation was unquestionably outstanding. Everything seemed perfect, the tone, quality of voice, the sense of humor (how many jokes did you remember?), the eye contact, the gestures, the right questions, the philosophies, the confidence factor, the sincerity, etc. We all learned so many new things from their advices and that motivated us to keep on aspiring for greater heights in our business.

Jhon reminded us of the Five (5) Fingers concept. Once you have a new distributor, see to it that you teach him or her the following:
  1. Prospecting
  2. How to Invite
  3. ABC Rule (Adviser, Bridge, Client)
  4. 48 Hour principle in following up
  5. Handling discouragement
Of course, next to them is How to Present. I believe that you have to continuously listen to more presentations so that you can understand the fundamentals and be able to present the product and opportunity by yourself with confidence in due time, as soon as possible. Their system of presenting the business on paper is very effective and duplicable.

More power and thanks to De Villier's group!

Happy Halloween everybody!

Thank you also to all my friends who attended the meeting: Essiel, Harold, Sharlyn, and Archie. It was fun being with you. You inspire me more to succeed with your success. Keep up and stay focused. Then success will surely follow. The way to achieve prosperity in business is like in marathon, it's just a matter of finishing, no matter what happens, as we do whatever it takes, and enjoy it of course. As the title of a famous poem says (every plebe in the Academy memorized and internalized this):

DON'T QUIT

WHY???

In everything we do, the level of Why or the Purpose of performing a particular action shall be directly proportional to the outcome that we shall have.

We have our own goals right? Yes we say that our goals should be S.M.A.R.T. = Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound. But until we realize our deepest reasons or purpose in achieving a certain goal, that particular goal won't manifest immediately (or may not even manifest at all).

There you have it now, the magic ingredient called PURPOSE. The clearer and stronger your own purpose is, the more likely that you will attain what you want.

Let's say you want to have an extravagant two-storey house standing on a thousand square meter lot in Tagaytay, with all the amenities such as a swimming pool, basketball court, garden, garage, etc. That can be a perfect goal of yours attainable in about seven years. Think about this goal. Place it in your vision board. Wow! That surely helps. How likely is this goal to come true? Oooops, maybe about 4 points only out of 10 as I would rate it. Now think about this: define your most sincere purpose in achieving this goal. You may say, "I want this dream house to come true because I've already decided not to keep on living in a 3x4 sq.m. room that we will never even own for the rest of our lives... What I truly want is for my family to enjoy living a comfortable life inside our very own wonderful shelter, where relatives and friends would also enjoy visiting us." With that specific, clear, and deep purpose in your heart, I strongly believe that we can already raise the previous rating to a 9 or even a perfect 10 already. Here we see how Purpose is so important in propelling us nearer to what we want to achieve in life.

Whenever you will face obstacles/challenges in your journey towards success, it is your Purpose that will lift you up from the ground, it is your Purpose that will inspire you to move forward, and it is your Purpose that will push you to the limits until, yes, UNTIL you reach your goal.

So may I ask you now: Are you already empowered by the big WHY in what you are doing now? If so, CONGRATULATIONS my friend!!! Your dreams will surely come true!

"To have more of what you want, thank more on what you have." Thank you for reading.

Words of Wisdom from Sir Willie

The other night, I had a chance to talk to one of the most respected people in the Network Marketing business, Sir Willie "El Pajero" Terrado. His ideas are overflowing with wisdom that any person who would hear him speak will surely gain the knowledge to succeed in business and in life as well. So I share them to you, as to how I interpret his message, as well as some of my insights, so that in one way or another, these words of wisdom may contribute to your success!

On Faith
  • Lift up to the Lord and always pray to Him.
  • Thank Him for all the blessings that He has given you, and more will follow.
  • Offer to Him your thoughts, plans, actions, and results.
  • Pray: "Lord, guide me and teach me so that I may be of great value to others.
  • Have God in the center of everything you think and do.
On Other People
  • Bless them.
  • If you hear somebody say: "Buti pa sila...(mayaman, maabilidad, etc)", correct the notion by saying: "Kaya din natin yan (We can also do it. If they can, We can)", "Lalagpasan natin sila (We can be like them and even perform better if we have the strong desire to do so)" which leads to what I heard from Bon Jove: "Hindi man natin sila malampasan, at least mapantayan natin sila! (Though we can't outperform them, we can surely be at par with them!)
  • Be interested in them.
  • Appreciate them and never criticize.
  • Thank them.
  • Never blame others. Stop blaming and complaining. Take responsibility for all your thoughts and actions.
On Training
  • Know, understand, and believe in your business, the company, the management, the product, your upline, downline, crossline, and the teachings by heart.
  • Listen and learn from different speakers.
  • Remember, understand, and internalize the lessons you learn.
  • Always listen and learn from successful people.
  • We learn from our personal experiences, and from others' personal experiences too.
  • "Education makes us a living... Self-education makes us a fortune"; "Profits are better than wages." - Jim Rohn
  • Apply what you learn. Teach what you learn. Transfer your wisdom and knowledge. Duplication will follow.
  • Duplication is better than Multiplication. Copy a successful partner's system.
On Dealing with your Team
  • Meet them as a group regularly, at least once a week.
  • Lead a simple prayer before the start of your meeting.
  • Motivate them to answer these questions: "What are your dreams? What are your goals in life?" and most importantly - "Why would you want to do the business?" (Focusing on the purpose of your result is far more powerful than focusing on the result only.)
  • Plan together. An architect makes a plan for a building, and with that plan, he can already see the result clearly through the power of Vision. Imagine one year from now, what would happen to your team. (It's not to see is to believe, but believe and you shall see.)
  • Help them. Help them learn, help them grow, and help them earn. Don't think about yourself, focus on helping them and everything will follow for you. It should not be "Ako. Ako. Ako." but "Kayo. Kayo. Kayo."
  • Brainstorm.
  • Perform massive action. Share the business and the opportunity to not less than 10 people a day. There's a great emphasis on the word "Share". Remember the SW3Next principle: Some will, some won't, so what, Next!
  • Follow and apply the "NRich System" (as being taught by Sir Ed in his NDO). It is not the successful person that we should copy, it should be the system that should be copied.
  • Keep your team. They are like your children who need to be nurtured properly before they would be able to spread their wings and soar high like an eagle.
  • Talk to them from the bottom of your heart.
  • Teach them to stand in front.
  • Lead by example.
  • Celebrate your success.
On Time
  • What you are now is the result of what you'd been thinking and doing 5 to 10 years ago. Keep on thinking and doing the same as you did and you will surely have the same result 10 years from now.
  • Imagine what you want to be 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, 10 years from now.
  • From Sir Ronald: "May time tayo para sa P10,000-15,000 per month pero sa $1000-$2000 a week wala tayong time???"
On Life
  • Life is a like a basketball game.
  • It has 4 quarters of play.
  • The 1st quarter is in the age of 25 to 35 wherein you learn a lot from life's experiences.
  • The 2nd quarter is from 35-45 years old wherein you continue to play the game.
  • Then we have the Halftime. The moment when we pause, assess and reflect on the years that passed. The moment when we should make major adjustments to correctly set the sail and navigate towards the destination that we plan to reach.
  • The 3rd quarter is from 45-55. You now do all you have to do.
  • The 4th quarter is from 55 onwards. You play to win the game and savor the taste of victory.
  • The punchline: There's still what we call an Overtime.
  • Our purpose is Joy and Happiness.
On Doing the Business
  • Bring with you a pen, clean sheets of paper (two or three sheets only if possible), and your product.
  • "Kwentuhan lang yan." But it should be a Heart-to-Heart talk.
  • Know what you have to say by being mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually prepared.
  • Ask the right questions. F-O-R-M. Family-Occupation-Recreation-Message.
  • You should have already mastered the business in order for this concept to be effective. So sweat it out and train hard. Then apply what you learn as you do the business and then experience a lot.
  • As Jim Rohn said: "Success is not to be pursued. It has to be attracted by the person you become." So increase your value in the market place by being the right person.
  • The secret in succeeding is FOCUS. Stay in the business UNTIL you succeed. Never give up. The Camera concept: Your clients may have a blur image of where they will be going to. We help them Focus their lens, Until they will be able have a clear vision of success.
  • Success in business is a matter of Finishing, not jumping and jumping around without any direction and goal. Can you imagine a game on a basketball court without goals, or a marathon without a finish line.
  • As Sir Joseph and Sir Ed keep on saying: "At first, you will be IN the business. This is when you are devoting 95% of your time and effort doing the business with other people. Then the objective must be: you being ON the business. This is when you are devoting just 5% of your time and effort doing the business while enjoying the 95% with your achievements - Financial independence and Personal freedom, synonymous to Joy and Happiness.
  • Our business is establishing good relationships... "Forever"!
  • "Share mo lang yung business." With that in mind, you'll never be disappointed if your prospect won't join you, but you will be overjoyed if he or she decides to become your business partner!

"Thank you Sir Willie and to your Team!"

Desiderata

Here is a powerful piece of literature written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s. I find it very interesting to share to everybody since it gives us a guide on how to have a very fulfilling life. This was our final exam in one of our subjects in 4th Yr High School at San Beda College way back year 1995. It was also one of the longest plebe knowledges that we had to memorize and internalize in our summer camp training at Baguio City. I hope that Desiderata will also be one of your guides in this journey we call life. Thank you.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

HOW to Do it Right

What you are about to read is an article from R.G. Srinivasan's
blog entitled Getting Started on a Home Business. This article really caught my 101% ATTENTION! Why? You'll find out after reading it... and you may really want to share these ideas to your business partners. Let's all LEARN together!

So here it goes...

Y
OU HAVE SIGNED IN AND TAKEN THE KIT. Great. But don’t just rush out and start recruiting.
First and foremost is, one must understand that Network Marketing is all about knowledge. Paul Zane Pilzer the three times New York Times Best Selling author and economic advisor to two American Presidents describes network marketing as intellectual distribution. To quote him on the subject “ The fortunes that will be made in the new millennium – at least in the first decade of the new millennium – will be more in the intellectual distribution: educating consumers about products and services that will improve their lives, products and services that they didn’t already know existed.” Most companies call their distributors as consultants. And believe me it is not just a grand sounding title. The true nature of good network marketing companies is to consult clients about the products and tailor solution with the available products to their requirements.
So here are the step by step approaches to getting started.
(S-A-U-R-R)
Study the manuals

This seems too simplistic. But this is where most of the network market failures start. I have seen too many distributors who did not know anything about the product or much about the company. Every sign up kit has detailed manuals about the products and business plan. Start with studying the manuals thoroughly. There will be many points about the product and business plan which may not be clear from the manuals. Make detailed notes and ask your sponsor or successful up line consultants about it. Especially important is to know the history and background of the company itself. If you do not know everything about the company you work for you may not be able to answer questions of intelligent prospects who would want to know more about the company first.

Attend all Trainings

Attend all the orientations programs, trainings and meetings to understand the finer points of the business, the company and products. We may feel by reading the manual we know everything. But I have notice that every time I attend meetings, I get some finer points by the same trainer. It is important to attend even the same trainings frequently. There are also much training on development of personality, leadership trainings and workshops by most companies. Ignoring these trainings will not help your business at all. Make sure to attend one program at least every week even if you are part timer. And ensure your down line team does the same. In fact set up your meetings prior to training programs in the same venue so that you make your guests and team mates attend the trainings.

Use the products
This is the second most important reason for network marketing failures. If you are not a user of the products yourself, I can tell you right now you will never succeed in the business. If you don’t believe in the products that you are selling, don’t waste your time. Quit the business right away. Unless you are an extensive user of the products and explain the benefits in clear terms to your clients, you will not be able to retail the products. Also being a user and beneficiary of the product features, your explanation will have an emotional content which would surely appeal to the consumers/clients and you would have a higher conversion in retail. So use all the products extensively. Become a loyal consumer first then you will have more loyal consumers.

Retail the products

Successful network marketing companies are built on retails and not recruitments alone. If you study the history of companies like Amway, Oriflame, Tupperware etc., you will notice that the business is built on retails and loyalty of the consumers. Some of the top companies may not have excellent compensation plans but they have the best products and a retail base which is making them and their consultant distributors achieve phenomenal growth. A strong retail base gives you money everyday. Retails also take you to higher levels of achievements in the business plan. Your success is permanently cemented by the retail base which will create consistent income, unlike recruiting which may see ups and downs. Most companies have a system and stress on creating a 10 customer a month plan. Following this will create steady revenue.

Recruiting

Now this is a key area of networking marketing. This is also the area most network marketers are most ignorant about. People believe that recruiting is the be all and end all of network marketing. And this kind of belief will lead you to disaster. Of course, recruiting is an important element of network marketing success. But certain discretion needs to exercised. We often tend to browbeat people to sign up half heartedly if they are closed friends or indecisive prospects. Such prospects will never do any of the above important steps of the business and surely end up as failures. As stressed above this business is all about information.
Take time to recruit new prospects. Don’t sign up in a hurry to improve your current month’s performance and cheques. Present the prospects with every fact that will swing the decision and signing up with a conviction and belief. Show him the lifestyle of successful people. Kindle his own aspirations and dreams. Make him use the products and experience the benefits. Show him how he will not only benefit himself but how he can help others achieve financial freedom, social status, and a better personality. In fact you must become a genuine friend be truly concerned of the prospects benefits.
Don’t push him to sign up immediately
. There are instances of prospect signed up months after the first contact emerging as great leaders and accelerate the business to historic highs and making their sponsor millionaires
These are some of the basics of getting started in the business. Network marketing is not just about recruiting and selling but creating an entire new perspective on a lifestyle which everyone dreams about. It opens out an entire world of opportunities by bringing in you personal changes that no other industry can offer.

SMART Goals

Here is another article that I read as I browsed through the links and articles of R.G. Srinivasan, a Certified Trainer, Writer and Author with more than twenty years of managerial experience. He has a blog on home-business resources at http://www.home-businessresources.blogspot.com. Through this article, we gain knowledge on how to set our goals the SMART way.

How do you direct your activities and your time around your goals? Start by setting SMART Goals. SMART is an acronym to guide your efforts.

Specific: "I will contact 3 past clients a day" instead of "I will keep in touch with past clients this month."

Measurable: In order to evaluate how you are doing, you need some measure of your success. How many listing sales do you need this month? This year? This week? How many listings do you have to take this month? How many listing appointments do you have to go on this week?

Attainable: The goal should be something that is challenging but also within your ability to achieve. Is it possible to make 20 calls to past clients in a day, or is 3-5 a better number?

Realistic: Know your limitations and be realistic about what you can accomplish. You can set a goal of writing 10 contracts this week. But if you only have one A-Buyer lead, and no active listings, how realistic is that goal?

Time-bound: Set a start date and a completion date. Then, you can set another goal when you have accomplished the first one. If you are going to concentrate on developing an expired listing plan that really works, set up a time that you will complete that process and when you are going to begin the program.

One very important rule to remember in both Time Management and Goal Setting is to write things down! A goal that is not written down is not a goal, it is a wish. An activity that is not written down and scheduled into your daily plan is a suggestion, not a priority.

Setting goals takes time and organization. However, going through your day reacting to the moment and doing only the things that come at you as urgent is a sure fire way to not manage your time effectively and not hit your goals. Isn't it worth it to spend your time going after what will really make a difference?
